our logy in the mesquite. Many Cardinals were about but I failed to get any. They were singing everywhere. Many other birds were singing that we did not locate. We finally shot some Parrots as they were flying over. They are very heavily bodied. Dad shot a Peper! Night hawk from a Cactus tree. We also got 2 males and 1 female American goldfinch. The males are very handsome and were in fine plumage. We spent only 1 hour on shore and then had to return, but got about 15 birds nevertheless. Bird life in general seems very common and very tame. Often we could not shoot a bird because it was so close. There were many land-fermit crabs running about thru the dry brush. None of the plants had yet budded out but some were starting. The brush was immensely ofm. In the evening we shined most of the birds and found nothing got.
