clear so that we see the southern sky in great style. The Southern Cross and diffu are both in sight. The stars seem very bright and plentiful and the fire flies are all working overtime below. July 18. Today we started out by getting a journal of the lizard hawks. We heard their cry from the station and finally found them in some dense timber across the S.E. River. In the dense timber there were several new things - a large Hummer, a queer bird we call a Song Sparu and a black quail with yellow eye Bare put, and white bell. The quail was down in dense brush - no nest was seen yet the bird was apparently ready to lay. The Song Sparu off in the dense vines flidng about like a warbler. It had a high piping note that sounded like an insect. There were two of the hawks sprawling as we got the star
