We now think that the birds we thought were mumble were shearwaters, because of the long wing and exotic flight habit. As we neared the cape a fine old cormorant came over the ship and finally lit on the mast. We were very curious and circled about the boat several times. No gulls or other birds met us at the cape - we were 6-10 miles out. The weather is now quite wavy and the sea very calm. June 24 Wed. About ten o'clock we came in sight of land and the Boobys came out to meet us. The first of them were evidently young as the breast was spotted and streaked. They are a rather uniform brown above. The old birds soon appeared, having white throat and breast. We are calling them Breathy Boobys. Their flight is rather slow with a good deal of soaring.
