49 tree over the shrub. Turkey Vultures were also present in the crowd. Two young ground doves out of the rift, even about the house today. Also heard several swifts flying about at dusk. The Ani eggs are very thick shelled and are coated with a kind of white chalk. Underneath they are blue-green and when blown look like a hawk's egg when held to the light. The chalk is easily scratched and many eggs fall scratched in a manner to suggest the birds scratching them when relining the nest with leaves (as seems to be the habit), however some other agent may cause this. July 13 The tree about which I have seen hummers many times today yielded a double-looking sketch like a female Xantus. [illegible] I got a female goldfinch today and it appears much like the Maris Island bird. Our conclusion as to the
