Malamerpes formicivorus
Plague
(9 April) the ♂♀ (any of them) and then chase or displace them;
also, the 2 pairs of ♂♀ are fairly evenly
matched; however, I think the Sch. Hill birds have
a slight edge. The Blomone birds do seem to have.
the Plague tree, however, which may be to their
advantage (the Sch. Hill birds are in the 2º tree; the
38 are in (both)). Most of the serious fighting is
also in the 2º tree, apparently between the 2 sets
of ♂♀.
This evening Ron reported that ♂494 and ♂496 appeared
to have won - not only did he see the 38 mounting
them (inc. a copulation between ♂473 and [illegible] one
of the ♂♀) but he also saw the School Hill ♂♀
actually fly off toward School Hill near the end.
This is all rather exciting! even if those 2 ♂♀ from
Blomone were supposed to stay and breed back
home!
10 April Ron watched here today, reporting that ♂496 and ♂494
are now well ensconced; he also saw several more
copulations between ♂473 and ♂496. ♂522 appears
to have disappeared entirely, and was not even up by
the cabin anymore. See Ron's notes for more details.
12 April 900. ♂473 over with ♂496 over by the Woodpile; ♂3521 with ♂494
atop Plague.
915. A chase - ♂3521 chasing ♂496 (!)
923. Several birds converged at the top of Plague; ♂496
mounted ♂473, then he mounted her, then she mounted him.
