Koenig 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Upper Arnold Z Hastings Reservation (27 April) Otherwise, noone seen and noone in any holes here. 30 April Passed by here this evening and flushed out a ♀ from the hole in the 2° granary who, as best I could tell, was ♀ Red #567 from Al! Noone else in any holes, however. 1 May Bird in lower hole in last year's nest tree late this afternoon. 2 May 615. Noone in any holes this time. 4 May 1500. Bird (♂) in lower hole again: a nest for sure. 5 May 1400. ♂ in hole. Opened it up: they've got 5 fresh eggs. 17 May 1115. Checked the hole - 3 babies and 2 unhatched eggs. 5 June 1530. Banded and bled the 3 babies, who all look fine, as #681-683. 15 June 1615. Babies looking far out of the nest hole - about ready to go! Counted stores: Main tree: 885 ? 1977. 20 tree: 1092 Still doing incredibly well. 21 July 800. Nobody seen here in passing. 16 August 1100. There are Lots of acorns remaining here. These birds definitely aren't going to run out.
