1981 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill West Hastings Reservation 8 March 1540. Watching. Upon arrival I flushed 1♀ - 0/r/m #531. 1615. There are a fair number of acorns still stored here; almost all were Black Oaks. 1620. Flushed 2 birds down the side of the hill toward Pipeline. One was a ♂, the other was ♀#531. So far now it's clear that there's still a pair here, at least, but whether or not the ♂ baby is still here is up for grabs. 30 May 1400. Came up with Ron and Arie to band the 1 and only baby here as #674: wt: 68.1 wing chord: 48mm This group does have stores remaining. 2 August Purge: j592. Last seen 1 Dec 80, gone by 8 March, Dis. about 19 Jan. 1981 ± 1 month. j593. Last seen 25 June, gone by 1 Dec → Dis. about 12 Sept. ± 2 months. j594. Last seen when banded on 29 May; gone by 1 Dec → Dis. about 1 Sept ± 3 months. 15 August 1100. No stores left here. Also, the nest hole limb has fallen, along with just about the remainder of that Black Oak. No birds remains at the hole, however.
