1981 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Road I (16 April) carrying the egg (her egg!), She flies to the granary with it, where's she's greeted by 1-2 others. After 15s or so (still carrying the egg intact in her bill) she flies off across the road with it, and reappears ~1m later without it! 829. 9383 enters hole, leaves right away with wood chips. 850. I've now seen all 4 of the breeders (at one time or another) over in the granary. 916. 9383 back in the hole. Leaves at 923. 925. Checked the hole again: O eggs. Counted stores: Main tree: 2013 Sycamore: 100 } 2113 (Used the scope to count). 17 April 605. Back again, watching. I've just checked the hole (I arrived at 545) and there is nothing in it. • 626. 9383 enters hole. None else in vicinity. 636. Waked from inside of hole when 2 birds met in granary. 638. Looks out and leaves. 640. 9383 at hole; leaves without entering. 641. 9383 enters; leaves at 648. Going to check hole. 700. She did it again: this one is normal and measures 25.2×20.8mm 745. 35 birds in granary together. 0♀ M / Wt.-LB# 578 seen. 812. Intruder in the nest tree: ? Da/Da-BP(w)# 614 (4yr Finish [somehow I must have switched her bands]). 823. 9383 enters hole; looks out 826; leaves 828. 837. Someone gave an alarm call and at least 3 birds piled into a hole in the main granary. 9269 seen (in granary). 903. 9383 entered hole; looked out at 906 and 915, (go to P.4)
