1981 Walter D. Koenig 3 Melanerpes formicivorus Blomone Hastings Reservation (30 April) Time to make the necessary changes to this group: 8513. Last seen 9 March, presumably gone just prior to 22 April when the Revolution started: Disappeared about 20 April. 8584. Here on 22 April during the early stages of the Revolution, but left shortly. Seen by Pam on 28 April over in the 2nd canyon, not far away. This bird is presently a real-live floater, having been evicted by the new 38 replacing his father: Left group about 23 April. 9478. The breeding was here fighting on 22 April, but had clearly been overwhelmed by the trio of new by 24 April. She hung around on the periphery at least through 25 April, but is now gone, presumably another floater. This is the 1st documented instance of a breeding bird being evicted from its territory during a Revolution begun by a vacancy in the other sex, and confirms the potential payoff to participating in -Revolutions!: Left group about 23 April. Add: 8492, 8493, 8622, 9648, 9649, 9650. All these birds moved in during the Revolution which began due to the demise of 8513 on 22 April and spread to include a fight for the spot here, which 9478 lost. The 3 were all unbanded but were caught in an ambush 30 April: Moved here 23 April. If they all stay it should be an interesting Spring here!
