Also I took a sample of 50 acorns.
29 March Purge: 8511. Last seen on 3 June 1980, when he came
and fed the babies several times (the only times he was
seen at the nest, apparently). Gone on 4 June and there-
after. (8511 was seen during nest watches on 2 May and
2 June, however). Not seen 30 June, 1 July (Ron):
Disappeared about 16 June ± 2 weeks.
j588 and j589: Last seen 10 Oct. 1980 (me);
gone by 20 Dec. (Ron): Disappeared about 15 Nov ± 1 month.
5 April 1015. Ron and I came up here to see what's up after
Ron reported some revolution activity yesterday. 8515
is definitely gone, while the other 3 residents are all
here along with ~6-9 88 vying for 8515's place.
Most are unbanded, but 8509 (from Gazebo) and
8523 (from School Hill) are involved, though not
winning at the moment. 8587 (the 1st yr bird here) is
still here and fighting it out, at least for the moment
1220. We now have 2 nets up in the granary.
1250. Caught 8587 in net
1600. I've been gone much of the time but by now we've
caught 8523 plus 2 unbanded 88, the latter of whom
(8642) may be the apparent heir at this point. However,
things are very quiet at the moment
1630. Leaving. Still modest activity, but it's no longer
clear who (if anyone) is in the lead. A clear time to
