1981 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Y Hastings Reservation 4 April 750. There were at least 2 birds in front of the barn when I came by at 700, but none appears to be here now. 810. ♀♀ flew from over the knoll to the top of the cycamore right at the Y. She sat there for ~20s and then flew up to the Torrey Pines along the road to John's house. 9 April 810. Unbanded ♀ in one of the tall Sycamores; flew up to Plaque. 14 April Pam reports the following observations from the Y area: Two ♀♀ in locusts in front of Lower Barn, ~1740-1820t. I was ub, the other ♀ Red/Yellow #623 (1st yr from 1500). Both apparently getting along together. Then a ♂ (not identified) comes by, and there's a fight (?) following which there's a single ♂ and ♀ hanging out together both in Lower Barnyard and in a couple other locals around the Y. Looks good for a new group here! 15 April Pam reports seeing birds up on the knoll and in the Y area again this morning. 25 April Pam reports birds being in the area again this morning. 27 April 1100. ♀♀ landed over near the (unused) Valley Oak Granary. 1630. 2 birds in the old granary here, going over to the side of School Hill above Gatefield: ♂ M/Bees and ♀ M/. Don't know who they are for sure, but likely candidates are ♂584 and ♀478, recently ousted from Blomone. 30 May 805. First seen at Pump and then going over to the Knoll is ♂ Red-Dr/Dk-Red #564 from 1800.
