Melanerpes fornicivorus
Bianca Hartings Reservation
17 April 845. Several birds over here proved to be Black Oak birds; they were hawking and generally hanging around the entire area.
8 May 940. Flushed 3 birds from the main area here on arrival.
21 May 1800. None seen here or in any holes.
5 August 945. ≥ 2 birds hawking in the lower part of the territory - presumably Black Oak birds (?)
3 October 845. No stores here anywhere. There were, however, several birds in the upper area by the corral. Most were presumably Black Oak birds, but 1, at least, was unbanded and did not flush with the others.
9 October 800. I came over here searching for the Black Oak birds and saw at least 2 individuals in the area.
29 November 1150. Checked the storage areas here and found 2 stored acorns, despite the fact that the ground is littered with Black Oak acorns over here. The 2 acorns I did see no doubt are from the Black Oak group. I did see several birds up on the knoll between Bianca and LA2, but was unable to identify any (except for an unbanded ?!).
