1980 Walter D. Koenig 2 Melanerpes Fomicivorus Lambert Hastings Reservation (25 February) 1610. After wandering over by Near Lambert and so forth, where there was some activity, I came back on the south side of the "pond" going back toward Hastings. In the same area where there have been birds several times in the past were several birds - at least 3 and possibly 4. They were not especially friendly to each other, and some displacing was taking place. When they saw me, however, they all set for a while, allowing me to identify 1) Or/DA-Or #284 from Lambert and also -> ♀ Maum (LP-Bd #207 -> the former ♀ at Arnold 3!! Eventually they flushed over to the edge of HNHR (to the fence right above the A3 nest tree) where I again identified ♂284; at that point he was with a second bird, both of whom flew off along the fence line toward Keep Out. This would suggest that ♂284 and his ♀ are still here, and also that ♀207 and possibly her ♂ are both hanging in here also, apparently spending the winter over on Lamberts along with other "orphans". 26 February 1515. This time when walking up from A3 to the Keep Out area there were 3 birds up in the "Top" tree who scattered over onto Lambert's (area S of Reservoir, as before). 6 April 1115. Noone seen over here (on either side of the "Reservoir") this time. I did count stores, however: Lam FT: 600 VO NT: 238 Hast FT: 248 VO on H: 1323 }
