1980 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill Hastings Reservation (15 November) earlier in the month. In fact, they may actually be "budding" off. 30 November 1115. Counted stores: Main tree: 1660 ? 1945. 2nd tree: 285 } Several comments: 1) the dead limb with so many stores in the Main Tree was counted twice, 1st from the ground (610) and then from up in the tree (760). The latter figure was used in the tally. 2) a lot of the stored acorns are Black Oaks, 3) there were several birds hanging around the area. There are no stores up at School Hill "B".
