1980 Walter D. Koenig 6 Melanerpes fornicivus Gazebo Hastings Reservation (9 July) 1625. Watched a ♀ in the granary area, but wasn't able to see who she was. 1645. Finally giving up. Birds are here (I've seen at least 5 today) but are scattered all over without any obvious unifying theme. 16 July Purge: 9485. Last seen by Gwen at the nest on 21 May, remains found on 24 May → Disappeared about 22 May. 21 July 1500. Walked around, flushing 4 birds including 3 LP/M #517, who was sapsucking in a Blue Oak. The others were elusive, as usual. Also, there are at least some stores remaining here as of the moment. 21 September 1720. There are some new stores here now already, but I suspect this group did run out sometime (early) in August. There were also a lot of birds here (5+) but I was essentially unable to identify anybody. 13 October Purge: 9510. Last seen here on 9 March; "all 5" birds still here at least as late as 31 March, but this bird had apparently disappeared by the time the nest here had begun on about 18 April (this bird was never seen at the nest nor seen subsequently). → Disappeared about 9 April ± 1 week. 18 October 1035. Several birds here. ①♀ La-Da-yet #509. 1040. ②♀ Reddish/M ?? A new ♀ Maybe? 1045. ③♂ LP/M #517. 1115. Giving up. Need to get a hide out here and watch. 21 October 930. Watching from hide. 1000. ①♂ ya-CB/#569 (most likely). ②♂ LB-Bik/LB #571. 1020. ③♂ wm/Red-Wm #572.
