Melanerpes formicivorus
Blomone
(21 July) all made it out) and found no remains to speak of inside.
There are quite a few acorns left in the granary here, by
the way.
1515. In passing I found 8 or /or #513 sitting here near the granary.
21 September 1800. There are quite a few stores here, some of which are
new but most of which appear to be old. Thus, this group
does not appear to have run out of stores over the summer.
18 October 930. Watching. Flushed 2 80 from granary, inc. ①♂ M/Red#584.
There are lots of stores here.
1030. Giving up. None back yet.
1140. On way back, 2 80 in granary again, ♂584 and ②♂ Red/M #513.
20 October
900. Watching granary from hide.
1000. None. Going to look around.
1040. Back again, watching from a different spot.
1051. ①♂ Red/Red #513 upset over a Magpie in the large douglasii (?) roost tree.
1140. Pretty darn dull. Leaving.
21 October
1120. ♂ M/Red#584 in top of granary in passing.
23 October
1100. Watching.
1120. ②♀ here (could be j478 or j586).
1145. 2 80 here briefly.
1150. ①♀ N/DB-or #478, ②♂or/or#513 hawking in granary.
1230. Hardly an inspired watch, but I am nonetheless
convinced that j586 is certainly gone (not seen after banding)
and that most likely j585 has not survived either.
20 November Purge: j585, 586: Not seen after banding on 27 May.
4 December 1630. Flushed 2 birds here and checked the granary, which is loaded!
