(3 June) I also checked up on last year's nest hole, which had a few problems (they had almost deepened the entire bottom out), but it was easily fixed.
6 June Opened last year's hole again; there was nothing in it but it certainly seems appropriate for a nest at this point.
19 June 1545. Checked holes on the main side, but nothing up.
23 June 1140. Checked all the holes here, but saw nothing. Also watched for 20 min, but nobody at all came by.
24 June 1120. Watching.
1130. OODBLW #297 flew into granary from the creek.
1140. 8297 flew to the Live Oaks on the Upper Wide side. No sign of the 9.
1145. 8 back hawking from tree 3.
Leaving. There could be something here, but it will take some more watching to find out for sure.
Just as I was going, the 8 flew up and over to the side of School Hill. That did it, so I walked over, and sure enough, there was the 9 in the hole in a small Valley Oak about 1/3 of the way up in the hole I found back when I was looking for their 1st nest. I flushed her and heard nothing, so maybe they still have eggs.
25 June 900. Went up and opened the hole, which now has 4 newly hatched babies (maybe in their 2nd day) plus 1 fertile, unhatched egg. So the clutch size here was 5, in any case.
18 July 1850. Banded and bled the babies, of whom 2 have made it. They are well along and now #622 and 623.
2 August 815. Counted stores: Tree 1: 196 ? 206.
Tree 2: 10 ?
