Melanerpes formicivorus
Hastings Reservation
5 June 1600. 9DB-Dr/DB-Dr #478 seen by Pam here this afternoon. This is the adult ♀ (presumably with fledglings!) from Blomone.
7 June Pam saw ♂521 from Plaque at the knoll at 1145 today.
7 July 1630. Both of the 1st yr (now 2nd yr!) ♀♀ from School Hill, ♂523 and ♂524, are presently sitting in the locusts in front of the Lower Barn.
18 October 1200. ♀ BIRL(W)H #602 from School Hill hawking in front of the barn by herself.
23 October This evening about 15m before dusk, 1, and possibly 2 birds were here in the locusts in front of the Lower Barn. There are a couple trees here that are loaded with acorns, so let's hope someone gets the idea and moves in!
14 November 1450. At least 2 birds here, a ♀ and ♂ Yellow DP #402 (both are probably from School Hill). 8402 was eating an acorn here; with luck maybe they'll start storing!
1455. Now there are at least 4 birds here—and I just flew in with a big green acorn!
15 November 1530. No birds in evidence here at the moment.
1630. There are now at least 4 ♀♀ here. It's a little late to identify much, but these are no doubt the School Hill contingent.
1635. 1 is ♂ Red-w/M/DB #604; also a ♂ here (8402?).
17 November 1130. At least 2 birds in the area again.
Postscript: Pam also saw ♂524 here on 3 May and 14 June.
