1979 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Plague (23 May) opaque but unhatched egg in it! One of the larger babies had 2 small punctures in its belly which looked as though someone's exit was not too graceful! However, they were healing and I suspect he'll be fine. 29 May 1515. Noticing that these birds are just about entirely out of stores, I went up and put about 90 more acorns in the added limb. 1600. Measured and collared the babies, all 3 of whom are fine! Though. ©BP-Or was the heaviest, ©DP-Red was the furthest developed, with primaries already several mm long (those of © had barely erupted). The unhatched egg was gone. 8 June Chuckling the stores here, the birds appear to have cleared out the stock I gave them, and otherwise I could only find 11 good-looking ones in the granary. 9 June 1300. Banded and bled the 3 babies, who are the first of the year, beautiful as always, and now #487, 488, and 489. 11 June 1845. ♀482 in Plague tree with a Tipulid. 18 June 1115. Juvenile looking out of hole. 19 June Nancy reported having seen fledglings here this morning. (she later retracted this, however!). I also added 80 or so acorns to the depleted stores here this evening. 24 June 1530. Pam reports having seen ~5 AW up by MacRoberts (!) including 2 babies, apparently 1) ⚫or-DB #489 and 2) ⚫wh #488. This must have been the whole Plague group wandering up here! This was before the fallen grandy up there and in (~150') from the fence
