Melanerpes formicivorus
Bianca
Hostings Reservation
15 October
1720. No sign of any birds or stores here in passing; the group may in fact really be defunct for the present (sight!).
16 October
Purge: 83 123, 126. Former last seen (by Ron) at Lower A2 on 22 August. About this same time Ron reported constant occupancy of this area by the Black Oak birds. Last indication that these birds were securely at Bianca was 7 August. :: Abandoned about 22 August ± 1 week.
8 November
1130. There are at least 3 birds over here. Surely these are the Black Oak birds.
There are no stores here at all. I was unsuccessful at seeing any of the birds here, but they obviously come from elsewhere.
10 November
930. Watching at the knoll up towards LA2.
1030. ① M/Birch/Red #497 - the juvenile from last spring. Now he and several others are hawking in the woods here.
1035. ② DBlu/or(?) #426 (?) Not seen well.
1045. ③ Red-LG/M #320.
1100. ④ Dr/DB-Yel(w) #321.
1105. ⑤ DB/Red #427. Birds are moving freely around in the entire knoll. Also in the Valley Oak granary here.
1200. Leaving. Four birds (all Bianca) for sure; possibly a 5th. The Black Oak birds are clearly at home in this entire area. I also checked the Valley Oak granary on the knoll, which actually has 9 acorns stored in it.
28 December
1230. No birds or stores noted here this time around.
