Melanerpes formicivorus
Upper Arnold 2
(10 November) Then He flushed off towards A3. Then I started counting stores
and within 5 minutes noted a (mother?) & looking out of a hole
in the 2° groveny'. He flushed off towards LA2. It's
possible that this was the same bird, but unlikely. And so, it's
possible that there are 2 88' living here. Needless to say, the
area needs watching.
As far as stores go, the area is in good shape:
Main tree: 660 7980.
2° tree: 320 }
11 November 1000. Watching. ①♂ white/m #126 (good old 8'126!) sitting in
top of tree near '79 nest.
1215. Leaving. A ♀ was hanging around here for some time,
but I was never able to get a good look at her.
1220. In leaving, I pursued the ♀, who flew 1st to the top 10 tree
and then off towards the corner by Black Oak!
12 November 1130. Here as I approached are ①♂ DB/LS-Red(!) #123 and
②♀ - unbanded I think but I'm not positive. My suspicions
are thus confirmed: 88'123 and 126 returned here from Bianca
with/to join an unbanded ♀; the A3 birds did not move over
here as I'd originally expected them to.
28 December 1315. Counted stores: Main tree: 884 7 1356
2° tree: 472 }
Doing very well for themselves! I took a sample of 50
stored acorns, but could only replace 11 of them (so remember to give
them more later on!). 1430. Only more acorns stuck back into the tree.
