Koenig Melanerpes fomincivorus Upper Arnold 2 Hastings Reservation 6 February No birds here, but I suspect that the A3 birds may be using this area, at least for sapsucking. 14 April A3 birds sapsuck between A3 and LA2, also possibly fly through here, but there is no sign of an autonomous group living here. 21 April 1840. At least 10 roosting in the old nest hole here - presumably A3 birds but the situation deserves investigation. 22 April 1130. None in any of the holes. 29 April 1850. Bird(s) roosting in the hole here: a ♂ looking out. Still presumably A3 birds as far as I know. 14 May 830. Nobody here in passing. 930. At least 2 birds in the area. (Note also Ron's report of "revolution" activity occurring in this general vicinity on 10 May). Both birds flushed towards LA2. None in the holes here, however. 2 June 1715. Bird in one of the holes of the Blue Oak by A3. 29 July Most of the area here on the Arnold side of South Ravine was quite chewed up in the fire but the main granary and nest trees emerged pretty much unharmed. Thus this territory may perhaps provide a refuge for the 2 A3 fugitives. 2 August Two birds were over here when I walked by and flushed down into South Ravine toward A3. - Possibly the A3 birds. 26 August 900.
