1979 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lambert Hastings Reservation 6 February 23 March 14 April 1030. Calls, birds up here! Possibly a group recolonizing at last. 1045. Watching. Quiet right now. 1050. At least 2 birds here - now both in "nest" tree. 1♀ 6♂ hawking. 1052. ♂ is ♂Lp-wm/Bik-LG #120 - from A3 (and seen there a little over an hour ago). Hum. 1125. The ♂ (♂120) is sitting at the opened hole in the upper Valley Oak! 1130. Leaving. I don't know what's up, but I better keep an eye out over here. 19 April 21 April 22 April 1855. Nobody seen in any boost holes here. 1000. Flushed a bird from this area (possibly the same ♂♀ seen at Keep Out about an hour ago). Watching. 1015. 2 birds here! At least one a ♀. 1018. 1♀ 6♂. 1030. Bird here flew down toward KeepOut. Leaving. There may really be a group here, though I have to wonder about who the 2nd bird (presumably the ♂) is - ♂120 makes no sense at all. I must continue to check up here. 1040. Part of the problem may be resolved: 2 birds here now, ♀ and ♂ Bik? -? or /M, conceivably but most likely not ♂120. Possibly ♂114? Don't know. I didn't really see him well enough to exclude ♂120. Hum. 3284??
