Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Black Oak Hastings Reservation (8 November) The granaries here are about as full as I suspect they could get! 10 November Finally saw several of these birds (8427, 8320, 8321, and 8497 for sure; possibly 8426 as well), over on the knoll by Bianca-LA2. See Bianca notes for details. 28 December 1200. Counted stores: Main area: 2135 Side area: 564 The granaries are really stuffed full here. I noted essentially no Black Oak acorns at all when I climbed around to get a sample of stores (I got ~85). (I did see 1, but that was it). No sign of the birds while I was here.
