Melanerpes formicivorus
Read 3
(21 October) pretty hectic, as before. The only main difference is that
♀446 didn't show up at all today - possibly having joined
in the fate of the other ♀ offspring here (i.e. immigrated).
See back for compilation.
Note also the apparent dominance interaction
(868 > 8184!) late in the watch.
26 October 1600. Went up and banded the 2 babies, now #525 and
526. Both seemed in good shape.
27 October Watched the nest from 1300-1530; all 4 birds were back
feeding. Also, the babies are old enough to occasionally
be up at the hole. See compilation on back.
Totals were as follows:

again. Compilation is on the back of p.[illegible]. The
baby (ies) are getting very close to the end.
3 November 115. No sign of anyone in or interested in the nest. The babies
have apparently fledged. Also counted stores, which are on
the low side as expected: Sycamore 162 275
Valley Oak: 113 [illegible]
9 November 1145. Watching.
