1979 Walter D Koenig
Melanerpes formicivorus
Road 3
Hastings Reservation
4 June
Watched here from 1530-1800 this
afternoon - and an interesting watch it was, with
all the old 9# (except for 9269) showing up and
with 9383 doing a fair amount of feeding! See
compilation on back.
At dusk, it was once again 8184 for sure who
roosted in the nest.
6 June
1950. 8184 once again spent the night in the nest
It would appear as though he and only he is the
one to do so here, at least this year!
12 June
1400? Banded and 6led the babies, who are of record
weight (almost topping 100g!). They are now #490 and 491.
17 June
Watched at dusk tonight, but noone roosted in the nest
with the babies.
3 July
Delete: 9269. Moved to watched group ~30 April ±1 week
(see R1 notes). Still at Road 1.
9444. Moved to watched group ~30 April ±1 week.
(see R1 notes). Things didn't work out; she "returned" here
briefly at the end of May but is now very possibly floating.
See Larry's R3 notes; My R1 notes.
9383. Seen 4 March. Not here 15,20,23,27 April (but
note roosting on 26 April!), 2,11,14,15,17,20, etc (see Larry's
notes). Reappeared on 30 May, attended nest regularly
through end (at least 19 June) → Left group about 25 March ±2 wks
Returned on 30 May. (Also prob seen at A3 on 25 April!)
9446. Similar to 9383, but only returned briefly on 29 May
and did not stay → Left group about 25 March ±2 wks.
