1979 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Road 3 Hastings Reservation 4 June Watched here from 1530-1800 this afternoon - and an interesting watch it was, with all the old 9# (except for 9269) showing up and with 9383 doing a fair amount of feeding! See compilation on back. At dusk, it was once again 8184 for sure who roosted in the nest. 6 June 1950. 8184 once again spent the night in the nest It would appear as though he and only he is the one to do so here, at least this year! 12 June 1400? Banded and 6led the babies, who are of record weight (almost topping 100g!). They are now #490 and 491. 17 June Watched at dusk tonight, but noone roosted in the nest with the babies. 3 July Delete: 9269. Moved to watched group ~30 April ±1 week (see R1 notes). Still at Road 1. 9444. Moved to watched group ~30 April ±1 week. (see R1 notes). Things didn't work out; she "returned" here briefly at the end of May but is now very possibly floating. See Larry's R3 notes; My R1 notes. 9383. Seen 4 March. Not here 15,20,23,27 April (but note roosting on 26 April!), 2,11,14,15,17,20, etc (see Larry's notes). Reappeared on 30 May, attended nest regularly through end (at least 19 June) → Left group about 25 March ±2 wks Returned on 30 May. (Also prob seen at A3 on 25 April!) 9446. Similar to 9383, but only returned briefly on 29 May and did not stay → Left group about 25 March ±2 wks.
