Hastings Reservation
(4 March) at each other! (446 rather more vigorously, however).
1040. Going to count stores. Looks like 8384 is gone for sure,
while 8382 is now suspect. All the 99 here, however.
Stores: Valley Oak: 85
Sycamore: 220
Going, but not gone.
13 March Purge: 8384. Last seen 25 Oct. 1978, gone by 4 Jan. 1979,
→ Disappeared about 29 November 1978 ± 1 month.
13 April Checking here today, there are definitely birds but they
unfortunately appear to be plum out of stores. This
may call for some supplementation - I want a nest here!
15 April 800. Watching.
822. 3 birds around: ①♂ wn-blk/blk-wrn #184, ②♀ DB/yel-LB#265, and
③♂ or/LB#68.
825. ♀265 just picked off and is eating a Sycamore bud!
833. Again these 3 birds and no one else around.
930. Leaving. No sign of anybody other than these 3; also
no indication of any stored acorns remaining. This is
interesting - it appears as though the whole flock has
dispersed right about on schedule, only leaving the
hard-core. Also no sign of a nest as yet.
19 April 1645. No one in any holes here.
20 April Purge: 8382. Last seen 4 Jan., gone by 4 March →
Disappeared about 2 Feb. ± 1 month.
20 April 1055. Watching.
1112. ①♂ or/LB#68 and ②♀ DB/yel-LB#265.
1115. ♀ flew to forest. 868, alone in the VD granary, is actually
giving several "Urrks" (they are only 1 syllabled and may.
