1979 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Finch (15 April) 1110. Getting hot and slow. Obviously something is up here in regards to finally acquiring a ♀, but things still seem to be rather preliminary. This group will need more watching. 19 April 1545. Watching. Nothing here at the moment. 1645. Zilch. Nobody here at all. Anywhere. 20 April Rurge: ♂386. Last seen 27 Nov. 1978; gone by 19 Jan. 79→ Disappeared about 23 December 1978±2 weeks. 23 April 1000. Watching. 1015. ♂♀wn/or-la #293 (from R1) in VO perch tree about pulloff. Created ♂♂Tam-Rat T-R #282 when he flew in and began to eat catkins. 1025. ♀ub, looking furtive, landed in sycamore granary and began investigating. From the VO above then came numerous Kamit-cuts, followed by first ♂293 flying to the next door sycamore, then both birds (♂293 and ♂282) landing in the granary and shagging out the ♀ (♂293 taking a more aggressive part). Looks like ♂293 is serious about this group. 1030. Leaving: Nobody else is evidence here. 25 April 1545. Watching. ♂♂Gamble/Gam-Bllc #63 sitting in tree by creelz. 1546. Chases! 3 Birds flying at each other! Activity! Wakas! Sitting on top of west sycamore greening is ♂♂M #282. There is also an unbanded ♀ here: ♂♀ub. 1555. The ♂♂ are definitely involved in chasing here; I think, however, that 1-2 ♀♀ are the catalyst. 1557. Quiet now. 1610. Proof! Wakas. Kamitcuts! ♂♀M/ #293 kamit-cutting
