Melanerpes formicivorus
Road 1 Hastings Reservation
21 June 1520. Watching the nest here to make sure nothing blatant
is still going on here.
1550. This is hardly a definitive watch, but nobody has been
near the place and it does support the "failed nest" hypothesis.
3 July Changes:
Add: ♀269. Seen at R3 on 23 April (and occasionally
thereafter), first seen at R1 on 3 May → Moved here as an
adult on 3 May (revolution occurring at that time
indicating likely time of movement).
♀444. This bird was first seen here on 30 April, last
seen "regularly" on 23 May, hung around peripherally
at least until 20 June; however returned to R3
on 29 May and 5 June (L. Hankes notes). This bird
tried very hard to be accepted here but 8486 just wouldn't
have it. → Moved here ~3 May, Left group about 26 May.
Delete: 8222. After an absence of several months this
bird was around for the 3 May revolution. On 5 May he
was still seen in the granary. By 1 June, however,
there was a bird in the Valhalla hole, suggesting that he had
certainly split off by then → Moved to Watched group 18 May ±2 wks
8183. Here on 3 May (scarce even then), not seen 5 May
or thereafter → Disappeared about 4 May.
♀293. Last seen here on 9 Feb., seen at Finch first on
15 April, at which time she appeared to be in the early stages of
moving → Moved to Watched group ~15 April.
17 September 1100. Some action here - chases, some Garricks, etc. Could be
something up here.
