Melanerpes formicivorus
Westgate Hastings Reservation
29 December 1000. Still considerable activity here. ♂6, ♀58, and ♀519 still
all hanging together in the Gate Squaremore; twice, however;
♀58 was over in the Willow tree eating an acorn (♂ub with
dark eye is still in Willow tree also). During the 2nd of these
times another ♂ was with ♀519 and ♂6 in the Gate tree.
This other ♂ begged a lot, was chased by ♂6 at least
once, and may have been banded, but I couldn't tell
for sure. At one point, after sitting in the Gate tree for a
stretch, he flew off up the canyon.
1340. 2 ♂6 ♀8 sitting near each other in the perches over by
the Willow nest tree. ♀58 seen in Willow tree. These birds
are hanging out some in the Live Oaks by the Willow nest tree
where they are still harvesting acorns.
31 December 1715. 3 birds roosted in the Willow tonight where
I'm ready to ambush tomorrow morning (my New
Year's party).
