1979 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes forficivorus Gazebo Hastings Reservation (12 October) birds appeared in it's top from norhshore: ① j →♀ M/Lg-Da #509 (molting to ♀), ② ♀ or-wh/or-wn #510, ③ ♂ LP/LB #517. 955. Down at the far end of the territory, just above the flat containing that large dead granary you can see from the road, I flushed ④ ♀ Mauve (Bike-Struck) #485. There also appeared to be other birds in this vicinity, and even possibly beyond (see map on back). I proceeded to watch the large dead granary for a short spell, just to make sure it is a different group. And it definitely seemed to be. There was a lot of activity in the tree among 5-6 birds, all storing, etc. But none that I saw (4+ birds) was banded. It's too bad this group isn't on or at least closer to the Reservation; it's big, active, and easy to watch. 13 November 1100. Four birds present in the nest tree as I approached, eating acorns (the birds, not me): ① ♀ Yel-wh/Yel-wm #510, ② ♀ Mauve (Bike-Wn) #485, ③ ♀ M/DK #509, and an adult ♂.
