1979 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Gazebo (24 July) here since I ambushed in March, I will follow the following scenario in the records: 1) ♂ unbandd #1. Present the whole time (see above, however); bandd 20 July → #516. 2) ♂♂ unbandd #2 and 3. Not present 14 March for sure; probably not present 13 April when Larry saw 2 ♂♂ here only (plus the 2 bandd ♀♀). Strange activity here between 25 April and 18 May (Carricles, unbandd birds, strange bandd) birds - see my notes and those of L.Hankes) reasonably may be inferred to be the period of ♂♂ turnover here. (Certainly this occurred by early June when they began their nest). → Moved here (age unknown) 6 May ± 2 wks. The 3rd unbandd ♂ probably moved here with them at that time rather than being the same one here previously. 3) ♂ 480. Caught 14 March. Probably here 13 April?. Apparently died during the interval of confusion here (possibly along with the unbandd ♂ - see above) → Disappeared at 30 April ± 2 wks. 22 September 1000. Passing by, I flushed 1 bird out of the granary and a Turkey out of the area. Up in the perch tree along the road are 2 birds sitting peacefully, ♂♂♂ 6 (!) [Note: Ron saw an apparently settled unbandd ♂ here a few weeks ago also]. 2nd bird is ♂ LP / #517. 1010. There's something odd about that unbandd bird. He has a yellowish eye and the crown is very scruffy and darkish in front - almost as though "he" were a 1st-yr ♂ only now molting. 11 October 1315. No sign of any one over here in passing. Some stores present. 12 October 935. As I appeared out above the nest tree several
