For purposes of discussion the grid has been divided from both north to south (see table 2) and from east to west (see table 3). These divisions are shown on map 2. Grid Species Accounts Black-footed Albatross (Diomedea nigripes) 46 + 1 nocturnal Overall grid density has risen slightly since last cruise. But north-south density distribution has changed sharply, with a very high density in the north and low in the south. This is a reversal of the distribution found on previous surveys. East-west distribution is essentially unchanged from last cruise. Although somewhat higher than recent surveys, the density does not approach that found in January. Laysan Albatross (Diomedea immutabilis) 3 This species was last seen in the grid in mid February, but numbers still remain quite low when compared to the January population. Fulmar (Fulmaris glacialis) 9 The rather pronounced drop since last survey probably reflects a migratory exodus from this region; This was suspected of being underway in early March. All sightings were of dark phase birds, and all were in the northeast portion of the grid. Sooty Shearwater (Puffinus griseus) 1 Sooty/Slenderbill (Unidentified) 1 Both sightings were in the eastern half of the grid. Leach's Petrel (Oceanodroma leucorhoa) 139 Storm Petrel sp.(Unidentified) 21 Although not usually recorded to species on the daily log
