2004 Walbird Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus MacRoberts HNHR (27 Apr) experiment for the year. (There were sh[?] 5 of them.) Group is a perfect 2 breeder ♂♂ + 1 breeder ♀, + 1 (at least occasional) helper ♀. 4 May Cleared out their old hole (tag 1305), eliminating a starling nest with 5 kids in it. 18 May Starling in the hole (again! Just like last year!) This is their nest hole! 2000. Caught (ambushed) the starling incubating 5 eggs (tag 5303, I think). Cleared out the nest; squeezed the bird. 24 May 1545. Bird in the new (low) hole on Oak Ridge! They were making last year: 4 eggs, a few days incubated. ① 23.7 × 19.5 ② 22.5 × 19.5 ③ 23.5 × 19.9 ④ 23.2 × 19.5. EHD ~ 31 May. 11 June 900. Banded & bled the 2 kids. 15 June 1900. Watched roosting here: 3" M/ #2973 roosted in the nest for sure. 17 June S30. Ambushed the roost hole (the 1st nesthole); captured 93032, 82999, + 1♂ helper. So! 82973 almost certainly roosted here. Then banded & bled the 2 kids. 24 August 830. Bird in hole (by fence). Checked it: empty. Out of stores here.
