(18Apr) in fact I never actually saw him. By elimination,
however, he probably roosted in the nest.
19Apr 940. Took the 5 eggs (exp #4). ① 25.1×19.8
② 26.1×20.1 ③ 24.8×19.3 ④ 26.2×20.2 ⑤ 25.5×19.6
25Apr 2 of the eggs were hatched at 730 this morning.
5 May 1645. Checked the hole, and it's just as well, as
there was a complete Starling nest in it! I
cleared it out and left it ready for the woodpeckers
again.
10 May 1600. A starling flew out when I came up
here, and yes, yet another complete nest
was in the hole. I cleaned it out yet again.
Also checked (and cleaned out) Their other
old nesthole (tag #1305), which had
3 hatchling + 3 eggs [starling nest] in it. Yuk!
If they hurry, the woodpeckers should have
somewhere to go now!
14 May Starling not only built another nest, but
has 2 eggs in the hole! This time I waited
her after dark and cleaned out the hole.
21 May 1700. Opened the new hole, which they are still
working on. It's very close to being ready, too.
Tree is in between the other nests, low only
about 10' up, facing the labs.
27 May 1500. The new hole doesn't look like it's been
touched since the last time. Meanwhile in
the old hole, there is (war) some junk à la
