2002 2003 Waltrid Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus MacRoberts HNNR 29 May Still stores here, by the way. 1945. Tonight 2 birds roosted: M/Red-DB#2973 plus a mystery bird: ? or/M. Closest I can come for this latter bird (who entered 1st) is either 93458 (a MacRoberts kid last seen Aug. 2001) or 82704 from Blompond. I'll have to try that one again. 31 May 1950. Tonight, watching from the other side, only 1 bird roosted: ? orn (CN) #2973 for sure. 3 June 1030. Checked the hole: 4 babies, 1-2 do. (Band 23 June). Still stores here. 9 June 1130. Bled the 4 kids, just in case. (#3714-3717). 32973 on nest; we measured him & replaced one of his bands. 21 June 915. Banded the 3 kids (4th went dead in nest, removed). Still have some acorns here. 2003 7 April Lots of stores. 15 April 1300. 5 fresh eggs (same hole as usual). 17 April 1915. I blew it at roosting tonight. 3 birds roosted: 8'3715 (the helper), 8'3327 (another helper- The one who had moved to Second Canyon), + a third bird who I missed. Drat! I'll try again tomorrow. 18 April 1930. 8'3715 & 8'3327 again roosted. 8'2999 came but left and did not roost in the nest. There's every reason to believe that a third bird, presumably 82973, was in the whole time and did roost, but
