2002 Waldo Koening Melanerpes famicirous MacRoberts HNNR 2 May 1620. Bird in hole (#1303): 4 freshish eggs. Both 88 seen one week ago, so we're definitely talking experiment here. 1925. Watched roosting: ♀ wn-LB/M #3323 came to the hole, but - Blaz/DB-wm(N) #2999 was clearly the rooster. 3 May #1935. Totally different tonight: 82999 came by, but never entered the hole. Meanwhile, ♀3A60 also came and one other bird entered the hole. But all of these guys left and in the end, ♂ M/red-LBlue #2973 came and roosted, just as if he does this every night! 5 May 1930. ♂ R-wm(N) 14cl #3327 came by this evening, but then 2 birds roosted (I may have left): ♂ -/DB-wm(N) 2999 went in, followed a bit later by ♂ wn/DB-wm(N) #2973. I think 1 bird then left, which was probably 82999, but I couldn't be sure. Both were clearly "prepared" to roost here. 6 May 900. Took The 4 eggs. Measured Them (calipers checked): ① 24.3 x 20.2 ② 23.8 x 20.2 ③ 23.9 x 19.8 ④ 24.1 x 19.9. Exp. #4 for the year. 14 May 1380. Birds seem interested in the 1st nest hole, but I checked it and it's still empty. 27 May 1130. Bird in (same) hole: 4 eggs, incubated. Excellent. ① 23.5 x 20.0 ② 24.4 x 20.3 ③ 24.0 x 20.4 ④ 24.1 x 19.8. (Calipers checked.)
