2004 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Knoll HNHR 22 May 700. A good set of ambushes. Got 2 old helpers not on the field list + the 2 NOBA fledglings in hole 5563 (old nest hole, lowest in locust closest to lab) and 5 adults (+ the unfledged runt) in the next hole in the other locust. I took blood for S.I. analyses from all the birds in the next hole, since the nestling was still in there. Hopefully everyone's banded here now. Note that the ♀ I caught very well was planning to lay an egg today. I dealt with her as quickly as I could but it still may mess them up a bit. 2 June 1715. For-D81M#3401 up near the Schoolhouse with one of the kids - most likely j D81M 3973. 3 June 1700. Bird in the 1st nest hole: 4 fresh eggs, marked 1-4. 9 June 1420. Checked nest: 6 eggs (forgot to make care #1-4 were still there). EHD ~ 15 June. 17 June 1100. 5 kids, 2-3 do, + 1 messed-up, unhatched egg. Band ~ 5 July. 3 July 1100. Banded the 2 kids. There was also a 3rd (dead) kid in the hole from whom we got tissue. Lots of acorns still here. 21 Sept. Checked holes in near locust: both empty.
