2003 Waltw D Koenig 2004 Melanerpes formicarius Knoll HNHR (6 May) Them take the rent out during her watch yesterday, but apparently they did not. 16 May 1800. Caught the 3 here with only a M band: turns out to be 52563, last seen in March. 24 May 850. Banded & bled the 5 kids. Stores? Yes. 1 July 1500. Birds hanging out in tree nearest labs (for weeks!). Checked both open holes: empty, 9 Dec. See Plaque notes regarding acorns collected from granary; all are old (2002 vintage) but most are still intact, contrary to my suspicions! See back. [illegible] 2004 11 May 730. Holy shit! Old babies in new hole a foot or so above #270. 2 flew out! Banded 4! Sheesh! 6 altogether; will have to get those 2 by ambushing later on. Cleared out a Starling nest with babies in cavity #289. 19 May 930. 1 egg (Marked & fresh) in hole #5555. (used last yr). 20 May 1140. Hole empty. Egg-tossing, apparently. 21 May 1615. Set ambushes. Also cleared out hole #1324 (high hole in locust behind barn) which was infested with a Starling nest (5 kids).
