2002 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Plague HNHR 15 April 1600. Bird in hole over by upper barn (1149). Opened it: empty but in good shape. 23 May 1000. Bird in 1149: 6 eggs, fresh (1 a runt): ① 19.2×15.8 ② 23.8×19.8 ③ 23.9×18.7 ④ 24.5×20.0 ⑤ 24.3×19.5 ⑥ 23.8×19.5 (calipers checked). Hatch ~ 1 June. Finally! 24 May 1945. At roosting, 8 [B/LB] #2056 was in; then ? M/DK #2428 came, but left and apparently roosted elsewhere in the tree. 82056 stayed and roosted. 26 May Tonight ? W/N/- #2935 came +left. 8 Near the end ? Maawe (M #3525 entered, followed by ? M/LB-Dk #2428; one bird then left (presumably, but not definitively, 83525), leaving 82428 for the count. No sign of 82056! 27 May Joey took the eggs for the 7th & last exp. for the year. We can only hope these guys will re-nest! 14 June 1300. New nest! Same hole. 4 eggs, pretty fresh. Sizes: ① 24.0×19.8 ② 24.2×20.6 ③ 24.2×20.0 ④ 24.3×19.2 (calipers checked.) EHD ~ 23 June. 17 June 2010. At roosting tonight, 8 [H] 3245 definitely roosted (!) along with (quite possibly) a 2nd bird.
