2001 2002 2003 Walter Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Biana Negra HNHR 18 Apr 7 See Photo 60 for notes on this new group, resting and storing in the Big Black Oak that Photo originally nested in between Photo and Biana. 1 May 930. Banded and bled the 3 kids. 8 June 900. Checked the 2nd nest (in same hole): 3 babies, probably only 1 do, + 2 unhatched but developed eggs. Measurements: ① 25.8 × 19.0 and ② 26.0 × 18.6. Acorns in this tree also! Banded ~ 27 June. 26 June 1530. Banded the 2 kids. 2002 12 March Pretty much out of stores here. 12 Apr 7 1015. Heart birds, but none in the hole. Still no acorns, but Doug's been putting some out on the feeding tray; there are still 30 or so there at the moment. 2 May Still very quiet over here. 2003 12 March Still stores here. Bird flushed from area. 10 Apr 7 Still stores. None in a hole, though. 26 Apr 7 1320. Bird flushed from new hole in same tree! 30 Apr 7 1600. None in any holes this time. 10 May 1330. Bird in that new hole again; opened it: 3 kids, ~20 days old! Come back up and band them soon! 13 May 1230. Banded & bled the 3 kids. Acorns: Yes! Tagged the hole: #5803.
