2002 Walter Koenig Melomys fasciculatus Bianca North HNHR 12 April A new group here, found by Doug, up between Branca and Black Oak, north of Bianca Negra, They even have stores acorns in what is a new granary - the old VO nest tree of Bianca's on the N side of the ravine! 19 April 1340. Bird in hole; just below the old Bianca nest hole. 22 April 1000. Opened the new hole: 4 fresh eggs. Unfortunately, a piece of wood fell and broke one of them when I opened it, so only 3 are left. Nonetheless, this is a potential experimental nest. Hole tagged #5559. 23 April 1920. Watched roosting here tonight; but best I could tell, the bird who was in there, who I believe was a ♀, never left after I arrived. Plus, no one else came! 24 April 1920. I couldn't scare the bird out of the nest hole, so I watched the new hole on the other limb where 3 birds roosted: 1 I missed, but there was definitely a 8NOBA (a kid from last year?) plus 8^DB-WM#3213. So all I can really say is that 83213 did not roost in the nest. Perhaps an ambush would be in order? 26 April 600. Ambushed the (non-nest) hole, getting (just) the 8NOBA now #3651. Also took the (3) eggs. Measured: (1) 24.5 x 20.1 (2) 25.3 x 21.4 (3) 25.5 x 21.4 2 May Noone in a hole.
