2001 2002 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes fomcicivorus Fanny Arnold HNHR (27 July) next here, apparently in my face (did they never look out of the hole? I checked the tree bunches of times), which fledged 2 kids that have survived to now. Checked hole 30 (tag 294): door a bit loose, but empty and in OK shape. 5/31/02 Prob. KOUT! See KOUT notes. 2002 12 March lots of stores here. Doing great. 12 April Still lots of stores, but noond in any holes. 19 April 1330. Bird in hole; traditional tree, but an old hole not used for some time. 22 April 820. Power struggle activity here! Perhaps 15 birds involved at the moment. Pretty exciting! 25 April 1245. Checked the (old) hole they've been hanging out in and the hole they've used the last couple years (tag 1147): both empty but in good shape. 8 May 1145 Bird in one of the old holes (the one below the other old hole they had been in earlier): 5 fresh eggs (1 a runt?). Measured them (calipers checked): ① 24.3 × 20.0 ② 23.3 × 19.3 ③ 24.0 × 19.5 ④ 23.6 × 19.7 ⑤ 19.2 × 15.0. EHD ~ 18 May. 22 May 1010. 3 babies ~ 4 to (1 runty). Band ~ 8 June. 28 May 950. Bird in old hole in gramary (which is loaded with acorns); nice shape but empty (tag #294). 15 June Banded the 2 kids here. A few acorns left, even in the next tree. (it belongs to KOUT(!))
