2002 Walter D Poenig Melanerpes formicivorus Keep Out (2 May) EHD: ~9 May (a guess). But we have no real idea about who might be here, so we should watch sooner. 8 May 1220. SH14 eggs. 1935. Too many birds roosting in the nest! At least 3. Definitely & Miret-Balk #2647. [illegible] Unfortunately I messed up on the other 2 and can't be sure who they were. I should have taped it all. I think They were 3 Lc-20M - probably 82684, plus a bird with a narrow split band; one of The helper 88? (3252) 9 May 1100. Turns out There are 2 brooding brothers here; a nice experimental group! So I took the 4 eggs, which should be close to hatching. 22 May 930. Checked The (same) hole: 5 fresh eggs. See Joey's notes for details. 31 May Doug pointed out something that explains a lot here: apparently these birds have taken over the dead granary over at FAAR. This explains why Jen thought KOUT had taken over FAAR, when in fact both groups are still intact. It also means that these guys have lots of stores! 12 June 1330. Bled & weighed the 4 kids, just in case (#3727-3730) 17 June 1300. Banded the 4 kids.
