2002 2003 2004 Waltard Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Black Oak HNHR (2 May) All pretty quiet over here. 31 May 1300. Finally went up to check The usual hole: 4 inc eggs (EHD ~3 June). See Joey's notes for Measurements (calipers chkd.) 5 June Just hatching - 2 hatchlings, 2 eggs; all will probably hatch. 25 June Banded and bled the 3 kids. There are acorns left here. 30 August No stores left. 2003 26 April 1300. Bird in traditional hole; flew out; didn't hear anything, so perhaps still eggs? Need to get the ladder up here. 30 April 1540. Finally got the ladder up here to check the hole: 2 kids, ~3 do; no other eggs or anything. Band ~19 May. 20 May 1030. Banded & bled the 2 kids here. Plenty of stores. 18 June 1540. Bird in the lower old hole facing The Arnold road. Flew out, but I should check it if it happens again. 26 June 1145. Opened the old hole: 3 kids, a good 15-16 days old! 29 June 1130. Banded the 3 kids. Plenty of stores left. 2004 29 April The traditional nest hole (in the tall limb) seems to have been taken over by bees! 10 August Out of stores!
