Melanerpes formicivorus
School Hill B [Named ch. to "Sch Hill Annex"] HNHR
(31 May)
1240.! There is a FNBBA feeding here!
1300. Giving up - too late, the birds are only dipping
in at best. But it would appear that there's a
new (breeder, I presume) ♀ along with what
I can only guess is a FNBBA helper from last
year. 82863 is nowhere to be seen,
1310. Waited a bit after all and nabbed the FNBBA!
Then banded The kids and set up for a dawn ambush
to get the ♂.
1 June
415. Ambusher messed up!
735. Back to try again during feeding.
810. ♀3328.
The ♀ I caught yesterday, by the way, ♂ is
almost certainly a 2Y bird, probably from the
missed nest. Of course, assuming a new ♂
here, both she and ♀3324, if she's still here,
have presumably inherited; even though they don't seem to have
laid eggs.
900. Just ♀3328 feeding so far.
912. Over foraging: ♂? 3328 or -DB [The one I
captured].
935. No sign of a male yet. Will come back later.
Lance watched for 3 hrs later in the day, but
still no ♂.
2 June
430. This morning the ambusher worked, but no
one was in with the kids.
26 June
1630. Peeped the nest hole: empty.
