2000 2001 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill B HNHR 28 Nov 830. Finally got a bird here, where one of the SHil 88 budded off last summer and bred with a ♀ NOBA. [illegible] Unfortunately, it was only 1 bird, but it was the juv, most likely the only survivor from the missed nest. In any case, she was just molting her crown, so the nest must have been quite late or maybe even an early fall nest (like August). Still a NOBA ♀ here, however, as far as I know. They're storing just in the old crumbling bank of The Valley Oak snag above The enclosure. This is also where I caught the bird. 21 December 730. Ambushed again up here, this time getting the 2 adults: 82863 and the ♀NOBA, now #3328. Everyone should be banded here now, finally. 2001 valley 7 May 1700. Nest in the hole in the dead [illegible] oak (prob. used last year as well; now tagged #1314): 5 eggs, a couple days inc. (EHD: 15 May). ① 26.5 × 20.0 ② 27.1 × 20.4 ③ 26.8 × 19.5 ④ 26.0 × 20.4 ⑤ 25.6 × 20.0 17 May 1600. 5 babies, ~3-4 do. Band ~ 3 June. 31 May 1030. Set up to get the ♀NOBA, 0♀ BLK(B-WCN) #3328. ① NOBA. Is 82863 still here? These 2 are feeding a lot, and noone else is in evidence.
