2000 2001 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Road 3 [illegible] 1250. Only a few stores left, best I can tell. None in any holes, either. 22 April 1445. Opened the new hole, high in the VD where we presumably missed the nest last year (but a new hole below the old one) 5 eggs, fresh (EHD: 1 May) Measured one: 23.7 x 19.3. 2 May 815. Checked nest: 4 babies (1 runtish) + 1 unhatched egg. Just hatched, probably yesterday. Band ~ 23 May. The unhatched egg was opaque but not pipped. 23 May Banded & bled the 3 kids. Looks like only a very few acorns left. 22 June Checked the hole (birds in it last 2 days) but it's empty. 31 August 1100. Bird in hole! 1415. Checked hole: 3 fresh eggs! 5 Sept. 1330. Checked hole: 4 eggs. EHD: 11 Sept. 2 October 1130. Banded & bled the 3 kids. 2001 13 March Ambushed this morning, getting 2 & 2y kids from last year (3317, +3210). This suggests that a new NOBA hasn't taken over here, contrary to Lauryn's suspicions. 17 April 1430. Bird in the new hole in the old R3 sycamore: opened it, but empty. 23 April 1645. Bird in new hole (now #1308): 5 fresh eggs 4 May 1100. 4 babies, 1 do (no eggs). Set ambusher, 16 May 1015. Got the δ.
