Melanerpes formicivorus
Finch:
3 April 2000. At long last a successful ambush here in
the middle hole of the leaning sycamore. Got 2
birds, 8'2449 and a 9NOBA, who was definitely
an adult (A2Y) - not a kid from 1999, late or
early. (Based on old feathers; square primaries,
no tail spots, old 30, etc.)
18 April 1245. None in any (known) hole. Also, no stores
here that I can find.
19 May 1130. Bird in middle hole in the sycamore! Checked
it: 2 hatchlings + 1 unhatched but developed egg
(could still hatch): 27.1 x 18.4 mm. (Same hole
where we caught the birds on 3 April.) Band ~ 8 June.
9 June 1100. Banded the 3 kids. Still can't find any stores.
5 Sept. Still no stores nor bird in hole.
9 Sept. 600. Ambushed the low old nest hole in the sycamore
next to the road (old granary tree), getting only
j [8] 3260.
Teresa reports a 5NOBA here, possibly from a
1999 nest (before we really knew this group existed)?
That's who I'm trying to get.

10 May I can't find notuin' here. Furthermore, this may
be the only group on the whole study that doesn't
seem to have any stores. Is it even still here?
They've been erratic, at best, all year.
25 May 1600. And the answer is: Yes! Not only that, but
they have 4 kids fairly old in a new hole (now
