2003 2004 2005 Walt & Penny Melanerpes formicivorus Road 1 HNNR 11 Apr 7 1245. Bird in old hole in the valley oak over by the Creek: 7 eggs, fresh. Measured them: ① 25.1 x 18.4 ② 26.1 x 19.3 ③ 25.2 x 18.6 ④ 26.6 x 19.2 ⑤ 25.2 x 19.0 ⑥ 25.1 x 18.8 ⑦ 25.4 x 18.4. 26 Apr 7 930. 4 babies, ~5 do, +1 dead (but developed) eggs. Band ~ 11 May. M B 2 13 May 1645. Banded the 4 kids. Stores: yes. (Hole #297). 24 June 1H5. Bird in hole (same one): 3 inc eggs. ① 25.7 x 18.3 ② 26.1 x 19.9 ③ 26.9 x 19.0. 1 July 1545. 3 kids, 1-2 do. Band ~ 20 July. 30 Dec. 700. Ambushed here, in the normal hole, getting all 3 adults. But no juv, which Jay or Andrew thought he saw here earlier this month. Given that all adults were here, I suspect that if there was a kid, he's probably gone by now - unless there's a hole I don't know about (where the nest may have been)! 2004 26 March 600. Ambushed at a new hole ~18' up in the Road Sycamore, getting the same 3 birds again! No NOBA, although a 4th bird did call from the area while I was taking them out so maybe there is another bird... I'm getting rid of the "NOBA" from the putative fall nest here: although seen once by the FAs, There's been no subsequent evidence he/she exists. 2005
